1 PERSON = 1 CENTIMETER
May 8-9, 2020
Watching the news and hearing about thousands of deaths everyday it was incomprehensible to grasp. The implications of numbers as lives lost ; a weight the world would need to bear together.
Deadline is how I choose to understand the weight of all the lives passed. With distance, breaking down each death:
1 death= 1 centimeter.
100 deaths = 1 meter or about two of my steps and the distance between my walking sticks.
The morning of May 8th, 2020,
74,595 people had died of Covid-19 in the US alone, or 745.95 meters/ 1,492 steps.
After walking, I leave the meter sticks there for someone else to pick up. I reflect on how distance does not divide us, for it is in the in-between that connections shine.
COVID RESOURCES - 2020
SUMMER 2020
At the beginning of the pandemic, like many others, I was unable to leave the house due to preexisting health issues. Confined in a small place, I became incredibly sick of the house and longed to be able to go home to my family.
The text "HOME SICK" is twisted and tied to resemble a mess of random connections until one finds the desired angle to read.
The string illustrates the ties humankind create through infection, the connection one longs to have with nature after long periods of confinement, as well as, the literal act of tying the front door closed. Sick of being Home, Sick at Home, and Home Sick.
